Nintendo held a shareholders meeting at their Kyoto headquarters a couple of days ago for a mutual back-patting session. Among other things, Shigeru Miyamoto got to answer a lot of questions from those attending. OF the many things discussed, Pikmin and Miyamotos new hobby were topics of major importance, and thanks to Andriasang we can look into them below.
Thankfully, the somewhat neglected Pikmin franchise received some attention. The only Pikmin 3 news that weve heard this year was that it was for the Wii, and that development on other big-name games for the platform meant Pikmin was left on the backburner. Miyamoto would now reportedly like to get the game released "quickly" though, so hopefully well be able to get our hands on it sometime soon. He also mentioned that, considering its been 10 years since he brought about the franchise, that it may well be time for him to make another. "Its about time for a new game character," he says. "Perhaps this can be delivered next year."
The 3DS was also discussed at length, although not too many details were dropped on the upcoming new device. However, Miyamoto did confirm that hes currently very much involved in 3DS game development. "Ill suddenly have ideas," he said, "so being busy now is a good condition." He also mentioned theyre thinking about adding an activity log to the 3DS, much like what is accessible on the Wii, which may help parents further track playtime. Apparently someone even asked if Nintendo had already started considering the 3DSs follow-up handheld, to which the usual answer was that Nintendo is always thinking about new things, and that the 3DS concept started its life about six years ago.
As for his new hobby, Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned that hes been getting into swimming lately. We already have the Endless Ocean series on Wii, so hopefully well be spared from a Wii Swim. Always the nice guy, hes also been involved in a youth guidance organization, spending quite a bit of time with school children. Its certainly great to know your consumers well.
