Shigeru Miyamoto has said in a new interview that all digital-only future is probably not on the cards and that a retail model (as in Game stores) will most likely always be around.
Speaking to The Mercury News, Miyamoto has commented that “The thing for us is we really dont see the future of video games being merely confined to digital distribution or moving solely or even to a majority of our products being distributed that way, Entertainment is something that will not just become digital. If I look at Wii MotionPlus, this is something that youre not doing via digital distribution.”
However he hasn’t completely poo-poo’d the idea saying that “The hope for business departments always is how they can reduce costs. So if you look at digital distribution with the fact that you dont need money for packaging and things like that, its great.” said Miyamoto. “As a developer, its not changing how much money youre bringing in; it really doesnt change what were focused on.
“However, I think it creates a lot of opportunity for a lot of different developers. Personally, Im one of those guys who, even if I have all the songs from iTunes, I want the CD as well. Its something that makes me — I feel more reassured with that physical media.”
These comments are not as bad as they first appeared and we do doubt that digital distribution will completely replace retail especially here in Australia while our internet is complete rubbish. However should things change could these comments come back to haunt Nintendo like the “Our customers don’t want online” quote from years gone?

Because Gate Rune and Dunan Unification War is too long to fit in a title.
