Miyamoto discusses improvements in the 3DSs Mii Maker

The Mario creator says his team put the “most focus” on that app

While the Wii’s Mii Channel allows you to create all manner of wacky Miis to use in your games, the addition of the Mii Contest Channel turns making Miis into a fun, social experience. And this is what Miyamoto wanted the 3DS Mii Maker to be from the get-go.

"For Mii characters this time around, we maintained two main themes. One is the compatibility with the StreetPass function. In other words, just passing by people who also have a Nintendo 3DS system will allow them to expand the world of Mii characters," says Miyamoto. "I do want Mii to be more widely used… And for when that time comes, doing something about the editing application for Mii is the second theme."

As we know, the Wii’s Mii Channel offers very basic options when it comes to creating a face; the Mii Maker is largely similar, but does have a few more refinement options. "I wanted to be able to make Mii characters look closer to the person," continues Miyamoto. "We made it so you can adjust the length and width of the eyes, mouth and other parts. With this feature, you can have more variations in your Mii character, even with just a few parts." More variations? Looks like there are going to be new ways to make wackier faces, if some weren’t already wacky enough.

If you haven’t been following, the Mii Maker can also automatically generate a Mii for you if you take photo of yourself, and can export your Mii as a JPEG image for you to use however you wish.
