Shigeru Miyamoto has now picked up the highest honour that the British Academy of Film and Television Arts can bestow, the BAFTA Fellowship. In accepting the award, Miyamoto said he was very honoured and shared his vision for the future of video games.
"It is a great honour to receive this award and I would like to thank BAFTA for this great honour.
"I am humbled because I cant do this by myself… I am embarrassed to receive such an award, so I am taking it for everyone who has worked with me in the last few years and I thank them for all their hard work.
"The most important thing [about creating video games] today… is to make them fun… my staff and I are always trying to develop something that is unique. To create a new standard, you have to be up for new challenges. Thats why I have become even more conscious in how people play with videogames rather than the content I develop for them… our imagination and creativity takes us to countless fascinating places where we hope to make new experiences for people of all ages. This is what I call a recipe for joy."
While at the ceremony, Miyamoto also mentioned to ONM UK that Pikmin 3 development is "well under way". We havent heard much about the next Pikmin game since last year, when Miyamoto briefly referred to it at E3 in July. Hopefully, our favourite little creatures will make an appearance at this years E3.
And not forgetting the Video Game Awards themselves, Nintendo claimed a single win this time with Wii Sports Resort recognised as the best game in the Family & Social category.
