Microsoft: Nintendo is for the kiddies

Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Business Senior VP Don Mattrick showed how badly behind the times the big green menace really is when it comes to the video game market by recently calling Nintendo out for being kiddy! Mattrick came up with the following gem when asked about the Nintendo and Sony E3 press conferences: “”I think Nintendo’s doing a great job with youth. I think they’ve got a couple of flagship Nintendo products that consumers are going to love. I think that they have a different usage pattern.”” More inside “”Our core consumer, I think, is the most sophisticated media consumer on the planet. The 18-26 year-old gets to try everything, they have their own discretionary income, they spend two times the amount of time on our products relative to competition – the study came out just the week before – they influence their younger siblings and they influence their older friends and family members.””

I think SEGA first started this way back with the “”Genesis does what Nintendon’t!”” ads from the early 90s. Sony also followed up over the past decade with countless jibes about the family friendly nature of Nintendo’s games. But seriously, with the number of seniors and adults who have jumped on the Wii bandwagon, surely this whole line of garbage has been put to bed already. I mean, if you are going to criticise Nintendo, at least use the “”casual”” garbage that seems to be de rigeur at the moment.
