Nintendo is putting all the Metroid Prime games on one disk, but this is no mere port

A Pre E3 surprise from Nintendo today with the announcement of ’Metroid Prime Trilogy’- that’s all the Prime games, one through three for Wii on one disk. But this isn’t just a simple port, as the New Play Control versions of Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are included and that means the same controls as Metroid Prime 3 will be on the disk. This is a different release to what’s in Japanese gwho received Metroid Prime 1 and 2 separately and without any off the additions (apart from controls) that will be implemented for the trilogy.

Yes Please

So what just are those additions? You can access each game installment from a unified main menu that ties together all three adventures. Through a new unlockables system, you will be able to gain access to in-game rewards such as music and artwork by accomplishing objectives across all three games.

According to hands-on impressions from IGN, the game has also received slight graphical updates such as bloom lighting, the loading times and door opening times have been improved on the older games and the entire thing is in 480p and Widescreen. The in-game FMV’s though appear to be more compressed, however, the game is still using a dual layer disk. The game has been in development at Retro and is due out in August in America, no release date yet for Europe or here in Australia.

Nintendo is obviously announcing this a week out of E3 to leave more room in their conference for new titles. They have done this previously by announcing the ’Wii’ name in advance back in 2006 – if the Wii name was announced at the show it would have been a distraction to what Nintendo were showing so they got it out of the way.

So anyone for Metroid?
