Mega Man Legends 3 canned
Capcom terminates 3DS Mega Man sequel
Mega Man fans hoping to get their hands on the much-awaited Mega Man Legends 3 for 3DS, or even the eShop-only Prototype, have had their hopes dashed.
Things were already not looking good for the title when the demo version (named Prototype) missed its original planned release alongside the 3DS’s eShop. More time was needed, we were told. Now the whole project has been canned, and a post at Capcom-Unity blog confirms.
"We’d like to thank you for your ongoing loyal support of Mega Man Legends 3. Today, however, we must regrettably announce the discontinuation of this project," the post said.
"Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game."
While you can’t blame a project for being cancelled because it simply isn’t up to scratch, the news will make it difficult for Nintendo to sell the message that 3rd-party developers are lining up big releases for the title-starved handheld.
