Master Sword coming to Super Mario Maker 2 in a huge update this week

Because it's dangerous to go alone

Back when Super Mario Maker 2 got its first big update adding online play with friends, Nintendo teased that more updates were on the way, including new course parts. Little did we know one of those parts was going to be the Master Sword.

Nintendo announced today that a new update is scheduled to arrive in Super Mario Maker 2 on Thursday this week — the 5th of December. The new update adds new enemies, like Spike and the long-awaited Pokey, new course blocks like Frozen Coins and P Blocks, a new curated time attack mode, and most importantly, an all-new powerup: the Master Sword.

Picking up the Master Sword (which is only available in the OG Super Mario Bros theme) transforms Mario, Luigi, Toad, or Toadette into the one and only hero of time, Link. As Link, you’ll be able to slash at enemies with the Master Sword, block projectiles and other nasty things with your shield, toss bombs to blow up blocks and enemies, and even fire an arrow off. It looks incredible. Take a look at it (and all the other new stuff) in the trailer below.

It’s not the Zelda Maker that perhaps some were hoping for, but hey, it’s something, and hopefully it’s the first of many amazing updates for the game.
