Mario will be making another return to the sporting arena with Mario Sports Superstars coming to the Nintendo 3DS in Autumn 2017, featuring five fully-fleshed out sports.

The Mushroom Kingdom posse will be competing across golf, horse racing, baseball, tennis, and football (of the soccer variety). The Nintendo Direct presentation made an effort to point out that each sport will be comprehensive, and that the football will be the traditional 11v11 unlike the 5v5 format in Super Mario Strikers on GameCube. The video showed a cross resulting in a belting header into the back of the net on a full-sized pitch to illustrate the fact.

The game will feature online play and tournaments across each sport. It will be the first time a Mario baseball game has hit Australia since the excellent Mario Superstar Baseball on GameCube, as the Wii sequel Mario Super Sluggers did not get a release down under.
