While we have to wait until the end of the month (didnt think we wouldnt mention that did you?), Japan is currently enjoying the excellence that is Super Mario Galaxy. For its first week at retailers, 251,000 copies were sold with the game topping the charts. Even so, when you take into account the Wiis Japanese install base of 4 million consoles, the total looks less impressive. More inside

While still a healthy start, it fell short of what many had been predicting. On the other hand, games like Brain Training, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart have proven that some games have staying power. Instead of the majority of sales occurring at launch, the game will continue stay in the charts from week to week for many weeks, building up long term sales.
