Luigi’s Mansion 2 developer, Next Level Games have said that they will be working with Nintendo exclusively going forward. The team in addition to Luigi’s Mansion 2 have worked with Nintendo on the Mario Strikers series as well as bringing Punch-Out!! to a new generation on the Wii.
The company though isn’t being bought out by Nintendo but instead because there working relationship is so good with Nintendo they see no reason to work with anyone else. “We’re super happy with our relationship with Nintendo. There’s no reason to look anywhere else. They keep giving us better and better IP to work with, and as long as we do our job and make good games for them there’s no reason for us to venture out.”
Carr was also quite frank about some of the games they’ve developed that weren’t for Nintendo saying they spread themselves too thin on these games. “We were about 115, 120 people. We spread ourselves way too thin. We just ended up making shitty games, really.”
It’s now hoped with a a smaller team and focus on just Nintendo titles the team can continue to make games as good Luigi’s Mansion 2. Carr says “They [Nintendo] give you the time to make games good. They’ve done really well – the Wii’s done really well, the DS has done really well, the Wii U is not the strongest start but we trust that they’ll come up with something to get it going, and the 3DS was a blast to work on.”
Next Level Games wouldn’t talk about what they’re working on for Nintendo next, but whatever it is we can’t wait to see it.
Makes sense to us.
It's Black, Back Again.
