Initial reports that the 3DS would be launching as soon as this October in Japan have now been retracted

Gamespot UK editor Alex Coby has retracted an announcement that the exciting new 3DS handheld from Nintendo was going to be released in Japan this coming October. Their initial report sourced a Bloomberg interview with Yasushi Hiroshi Minagawa that, when crudely translated, suggested a ‘third quarter’ release for the 3D-enabled handheld.

We were apprehensive about the much earlier than expected date, and it indeed appears that a mistranslation is responsible for the erroneous Japanese release date. All that can be guaranteed is that the release date and pricing structure for the 3DS will still be announced this coming September 29th.
