Masahiro Sakurai, director of Kid Icarus: Uprising, announced to GamesMaster magazine that the upcoming 3DS title may feature online versus play.

In an interview for the upcoming September issue of GamesMaster magazine, Masahiro Sakurai teased that he and his team are working on online play for Kid Icarus: Uprising. "The online capabilities are currently being tested," Sakurai said. He further indicated that there “could be some versus play” but did not delve into any details.

This is obviously a benefit of taking the series in a new on-rails shooter direction a la Sin and Punishment, in contrast to the original platformer game for the NES, released in 1987.

More details of the interview will be revealed once the magazine goes on sale tomorrow.
