Looks like the new Nintendo 2DS might have caused a little bit of a stir within Nintendo’s development teams. In a new interview with Gamespot, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed that the reveal of the 2DS midway through development of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds caused the team to have to make some changes.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds makes heavy use of the Nintendo 3DS’ 3D effect, not only to look nice but also for puzzles. “It’s not that you can’t play it with 2D, it’s just that it becomes clearer when you have the 3D effect on. We found out about the 2DS during development, not before, and we also made changes so that we were sure that you could still play and solve the puzzles only with 2D. It’s definitely still playable in 2D!”
When we played the game at E3 we thought the 3D added literally another dimensions to the games puzzles. Hopefully they’re still just as good in 2D.
Eiji Aonuma has been a busy man, last week he was in Europe and just a few days before that in New York for the Comic Con convention. During the event he was guest at a presentation that showed off just how A Link Between Worlds is being made. There’s a lengthy video of the presentation you can check it out below as well.
