LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens set to shake up LEGO game formula

The first gameplay trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been released and shows off some brand variety we’ve not seen in a LEGO game for a while. In addition to the standard platforming and puzzle action you’ve come to know and expect the game will now mix it up with flight gameplay among other new additions. These are full arenas in which you can dogfight in ships, including the Millennium Falcon.

Taking a queue from LEGO Dimensions the game also has multi-builds, you can construct something (in game) difference ways in order to solve puzzles different. There’s also Blaster Battles, you can now hide in cover and pop out during fights – it’s every other game so why not this one!

– Blaster Battles – Players can now engage in intense Blaster Battles, seeking cover behind nearby objects and structures, which is a first for a LEGO game. Characters can then pop out from the safety of cover to fight enemies with blaster fire.

– Multi-Builds – The enhanced Multi-Builds system allows players to choose from multiple building options to solve a puzzle and advance the game in different ways. For the first time, the same pile of LEGO bricks can be used in multiple ways, with the player building and re-building different objects for different purposes.

– Flight Gameplay – Experience the thrill of high-speed, action-packed flight gameplay like never before, piloting iconic vehicles (including the legendary Millennium Falcon) through arena-based battles and dogfights in space.

The trailer also reconfirms that it will contain additional story parts that weren’t on the screen and flesh out the characters some more. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out on June 29th in Australia.

Hope it has a better story than the movie, which only inserts weak characters that are an amalgam of previous Star Wars characters into rehashed plot from the original trilogy.
