Larger Capacity Wii U GamePad Battery Coming from Nintendo

Perhaps it was planned all along, but Nintendo have announced a larger capacity Wii U GamePad battery.
The new battery has a higher 2550mAh capacity (the normal one is 1500mAh) and is said to last around 5-8 hours. This is a welcome improvement over the 3-5 hours you get currently out of a Wii U GamePad.
The Battery is due to be released in Japan on the 25th of July for 3,150 Yen or around $35. We will let you know if Nintendo plan to release it here.

Nice to see Nintendo attempting to address this problem. Nyko’s Power Pak for Wii U also launched in the US last week which supposedly triples the battery life (it is 4000mAh and also just replaces the internal battery). I wonder why Nintendo didn’t go for an equivalent – too heavy or too pricey maybe?
I imagine price. Their margins are probably razor thin as it is, and for anyone who’s willing to pay extra, they can expland their battery life.
