Kamiya: Bayonetta 3 wouldn’t exist without Nintendo

Hideki Kamiya gives a history lesson on Twitter.

PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya Twitter feed is usually filled with quips and rants, but earlier today it was a little more meaningful.

Kamiya has come out to explain just what Nintendo’s involvement with the Bayonetta series has been and what’s going on with them and Bayonetta 3. Before talking about the upcoming game Kamiya jumped back to speak about Bayonetta 2, a game that was going to be multiplatform before things went awry at Sega. Nintendo stepped in to save it, development was finished and ultimately release it on the Wii U – with both Nintendo and Sega owning the rights.

Which brings us to Bayonetta 3, while the rights to the IP remain between Sega and Nintendo, this one is fully funded up Nintendo. Kamiya says that “Without their help, we would not have been able to kick off this project.”

There’s a lot of people out there who get upset that Bayonetta now resides solely on Nintendo platforms, but it’s clear – without them, it wouldn’t exist.

Kamiya’s full chain of tweets can be found here.
