With the Christmas season over, have the Wii and the DS let slip their top positions on the hardware charts? Pfft, no

Although Americans have seen Wii shortages since the Christmas season, Nintendo still manage to push out a crap load of Wiis, enough to top the hardware charts month after month. This month is obviously no exception, with both the Wii and the Nintendo DS family beating total sales of everything else for the zillionth time. Below are the figures – warning, they may turn you on.

Wii – 465.8k
Nintendo DS – 422.2k
Xbox 360 – 332.8k
PlayStation 3 – 276.9k
PSP – 100.1k
PlayStation 2 – 41.6k

Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, Cammie Dunaway, commented on the numbers. “Holiday shoppers depleted our supplies even after our fourth holiday season… we appreciate the nearly 900,000 consumers who turned to Nintendo to get a great value for their entertainment dollars.”

Looking at software, New Super Ma.. you know it, tops the list at a tad over 650,000 copies sold. It’s joined by Wii Fit Plus and veteran chart-toppers Mario Kart Wii and Wii Sports Resort. A new Wii title on the list this month is Ubisoft’s Just Dance, the game whose box advertises its track listing almost as prominently as the title, resulting in a cover that looks like the sorts of pop compilations that record companies shit out every summer. Wouldn’t it be better for people’s wallets to buy the CDs it seems to be cross-promoting and, you know… just dance? No offence, Just Dance. More numbers below.
