Iwata: More third party titles will come
Today in an analyst briefing at E3 2013, Satoru Iwata has made a rather bold claim that “more third parties will come” to the Wii U in the near future.
During the briefing, Iwata showed a slide which featured approximately twelve games that we already know about – Assassin’s Creed, Batman, Deus Ex, Disney’s Planes, Skylanders, Watch Dogs, Scribblenauts, Sonic, Splinter Cell, Rayman Legends, Disney Infinity and Just Dance.
While not essentially claiming that there are more third party games in the works for the Wii U, Iwata revealed Nintendo’s strategy for securing third party developers for the platform:
It is not my position to mention which titles each third-party developer will release in the future. However, more unannounced titles will come. We hope to revitalize the platform with our strong first-party lineup, and then an enriched third-party software lineup will follow.
This is, of course, fantastic news. Many third parties have previously expressed concerns that the low system install base is one of the reasons why they haven’t bothered bringing their titles to the Wii U. Assuming this works well, the Wii U may be bolstered by an even stronger third party line up in the near future.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you guys want more third party games, do you think Iwata and Nintendo’s strategy will work? Given what was announced at E3 to be coming from Nintendo themselves, we’re very optimistic.
