A new report has revealed that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was demoed the technology behind the Xbox 360’s Project Natal in 2007, but ultimately turned it down as he didn’t think it could be sold at a mass market price and was worried about lag.
This news comes via UK site CVG who say a "top insider" provided the information. Speaking to the site, the insider said "Iwata-san only ever invests in something he can guarantee will work for a Nintendo audience".
Allegedly, the company behind the tech, 3DV (which was previously unconfirmed) showed Iwata the tech but couldn’t sell it at a ’Nintendo’ price point. It’s also cited that lag between movement and on-screen actions was a worry, something that has been mentioned in impressions from other media. "We remain unconvinced Natal will deliver on the more sophisticated elements of what Microsoft is promising at the price they’re aiming for."
We’re sure Microsoft disagree.
