Fans arent happy, Nintendos investors arent happy and Nintendo wasnt happy. The Nintendo 3DS was expected by many to be released at least in Japan in 2010. Nintendos conference on Wednesday, of course, proved otherwise. Speaking to Reuters, Iwata has said that at first they "thought it would be desirable to launch the 3DS within the year, so we made our forecasts on that basis.” However they eventually realised they wouldnt be able to produce enough consoles. “At this point it is clear that if we launch within the year, we will not be able to supply enough units."
Nintendo is still targeting sales of 4 million consoles before the end of their next financial year (March 2011) and plans to shift 15 million games. Analysts have suggested that the delay might not be entirely down to production of the console, rather that Nintendo wants to delay it to allow third party games to have a strong presence. “EEDAR believes that Nintendo’s decision to launch in North America and Europe in 2011 has little to do with manufacturing limitations and everything to do with Nintendo’s decision to ensure a strong third-party launch line-up. Historically, third-party launch titles have underperformed compared to their first-party counterparts, which is almost entirely due to the limited development schedules available to third-parties.”
Nintendo is trying much harder on the Nintendo 3DS to make sure third parties are successful.

Because Gate Rune and Dunan Unification War is too long to fit in a title.
