We’ve all heard the stories – and they vary from generation to generation. Most of the team at Vooks were brought up with the advent of Mario Party and were subsequently inflicted with all kinds of injuries depending on how we played.

Allegedly today, there’s some concern in the public related to these and Dutch researchers have taken upon themselves to review data and establish just how “safe Nintendo products are to give for Christmas”. The findings were published in The BMJ, formerly known as the British Medical Journal.

The study scoured 1198 previously existing studies from the web and narrowed it down to 38 relevant papers which looked at Nintendo related injuries. The study found many different ailments and issues attributed to gaming and give an interesting picture of the issues that emerged as control methods and styles changed from the 80s all the way through to today.

The results of the study are pretty fair, though. The authors praise Nintendo’s willingness to address the problems and conclude that Nintendo products are safe for Christmas.

It’s definitely an interesting, short and approachable read that talks about all kinds of things from “Nintendinitis” to the newly coined “Wiitis” and the interesting video game related injuries that have come up as the decades have progressed.

Who would’ve thought, huh?
