International Age Rating Coalition System, IARC ratings could hit the eShop within weeks

Could mean a flood of indies.

We know it feels like it has been a long time coming but the International Age Rating Coalition System or IARC could be coming to the eShop very soon.

IARC is a universal, worldwide rating system for games and apps and the Classification Board is already allowing games (for mobiles) to be rated through this system instead of their own. This means less costs, less wait time for indies to release their games in Australia.

That means all those indie games we miss out on the Wii U and 3DS eShops could finally come to Australia under the new ratings system. So what’s changed suddenly? Renegade Kid’s Jools Watsham has spoken to NintendoLife who say he has been advised to hold off rating a game in Europe (which also has multiple classification problems) because IARC was coming soon.

If correct this means we could be playing Dementium Remastered the same time as the rest of the world and indies like Jools can release their games in Australia for essentially nothing.

Bring it on!
