The independent development scene for the Wii is now officially on hold according to a report from WaterCoolerGames. Back in November, Nintendo told independent developers that they werent planning to review independent developer applications for Wii dev kits until January 2007. Well, January is long gone and it looks like independent developers will be waiting a bit longer.

More Inside According the sites contact, the Wii Independent Developer Program is “”on hold”” until the end of the month. The reason being? “”The Wii publishers are taking all of the available inventory, and more.”” That means the likes of THQ, Ubisoft, EA are taking more kits then originally expected and there are none left for the unsigned developers.

The report also says to not expect any sort of independent games on the Wii or Virtual Console until at least until 2008. Lets just hope that by then independent developers are still interested in making Wii games as it is a long time to wait.
