Remember a little while back when Nintendo told us you’d be able to discount your purchases on the eShop using My Nintendo gold coins? Well, it looks like you’ll be able to do exactly that today.
A post on the official My Nintendo website has revealed that changes to the My Nintendo gold points system will be going live later today. Starting today, you’ll be able to spend your points on discounts on any digital piece of content on the Nintendo Switch, except for in-game purchases, automatic renewals, passes and virtual currency.
The rate at which you earn coins has also been significantly increased, with each digital purchase netting you 5% of the original purchase cost in cents back in coins, and each physical redemption earning you 1% back, based on the price of the game on the eShop. This means that an $80 game bought digitally will earn you a whopping 400 points, which can then be used for a discount of $4 on whatever else you’d like to purchase.
These changes are likely to go live later today when maintenance on the Nintendo online services framework ends. We’ll let you know when that happens.
