The latest firmware released for the Wii is reportedly bricking Wii consoles. The 4.2 update released earlier this week, which killed off homebrew and other modifications (albeit temporarily), is said to be causing problems for Wiis, not only with homebrew, but plain vanilla Wiis, with no homebrew or mods at all.
The problem is to due to error with the actual updating process, so if you have 4.2 already youre safe, but if youre on an older version of the firmware wed recommend not updating at least for the time being.
The firmware update makes changes to the boot2 portion of the Wii. Thats the area, as the name suggests, that lets the Wii boot up and tells it what to do. The new code in the update has been causing write errors, and thus bricking Wiis.
If youve updated and your Wii has stopped working, give Nintendo Australia a call, as the update has most likely bricked your Wii and theyll be the only ones who can fix it at this stage.
Or in the office, we won't judge
Definitively done with the Wii U now.
