Apart from Double Trouble! on the Nintendo DS, Viewtiful Joe has so-far stayed entirely on the Gamecube, on which it received two main titles and a fighting game spin-off. If Hideki Kamiya has his way, though, we could see a continuation of the series, possibly on the Wii or Nintendos next console.
Speaking to GameInformer, the developer from Platinum Games revealed that he now doesnt own the all IPs he has created. "I dont have the rights to any of the IPs that Ive made" he said. "They belong to the companies that publish them, and theyre a business so they have a right to exploit those IPs as they want…. However, to be completely honest, Id love to do them myself."
Okami was a game that he desired to create a sequel for, and others supported him on doing this, but on hearing that Okamiden was in development, he lost any interest. He explains, "Once someone else touches a world that you yourself created it stops being yours. There is no point in making a sequel when the world doesnt belong to you."
However, all hope isnt lost for a continuation of one of his old franchises. "Viewtiful Joe is probably all Ive got left, he says. "That story is incomplete so Id like to finish it someday. But that would probably be the most difficult one to do."
