Happy 2nd Birthday to the Wii U in Australia

Too busy playing Smash to write anything.

Over the weekend the Wii U celebrated its second birthday here in Australia and in Europe, we were just too busy playing Super Smash Bros. to remind everyone else.

The Wii U has come a long way in two years, the interface is ton better, the eShop improves and the range of games from Nintendo and indies continues to fill our hearts and empty our wallets. Third parties continue to be the party pooper.

Two years in we now have every game that was announced for the system at launch. Super Smash Bros, Watch_Dogs and Bayonetta 2 saw fit to completing that.

2015 promises to be a stellar year, the exciting Splatoon is coming, as is Yoshi’s Wooly World, Mario Maker, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Star Fox, Xenoblade Chronicles X and eventually The Legend of Zelda. Who knows what curveballs Nintendo could throw at the system next year and beyond as well.

There’s still problems of course, classification costs keep many of the great indie games away from Aussie shores, Nintendo TVii is destined to remain a useless button, Nintendo 64 Virtual Console support is coming one day, Nintendo DS games on the eShop were a thing for a bit and then not anymore and that ever standing problem of a proper account system is just a couple more steps away from being industry standard.

It also feels good to actually be able to recommend the system to people now, it has a range of games for everyone. You still have to explain to them what it is, but we’re getting there right?
