The Minister for Home Affairs, Brendan O Connor has released a statement today regarding a review on existing research about violent video games. According to the report, there is "there is no conclusive evidence that violent computer games have a greater impact on players than other violent media, such as movies or music videos."
However in addition to that statement, the review found that there is stronger evidence of short term effects from violent video games but less so with long term effects. It also points out that studies currently do not factor in aggressive personality, family and peer influence and socio-economic status. You know, all the other things that could make people angry and aggressive too.
This report will undoubtedly be one of the big talking points at the upcoming SCAG meeting on December 10. Just another positive step forward.
