Did you call the Wii Vitality Sensor crazy? Well it has nothing on Nintendo’s latest patent: the Wii Horseback Riding Saddle. The inflatable seat see you placing you Wii Remote in a socket on one side of the half ball-shaped device and you use your nunchuck to “hold the reins”. But it’s not just for horse riding; Nintendo says that you could be riding a Bull, Camel, Elephant, Burros, Dolphin or even a Whale.
The seat looks to be made of rubber, but the mechanisms for it to be inflatable are mentioned, including a valve for pumping it up. “A one-way air valve of conventional design may be provided to allow the user to inflate cushion. Construction may be similar to that of conventional inflatable exercise balls. An advantage of an inflatable design is that it is compact to ship and store.”
The demo given in the patent shows a game from the perspective of someone riding on the back of a horse as a “background of a trail, a field, a battlefield or other environment the virtual horse is being ridden through”.
So that next Zelda game is going to be different right? We just hope that this isn’t their idea of “something new”.
