Nintendo details 3D and 2D video services for the 3DS

Netflix is available on nearly every device on our fair planet, that now includes the Nintendo 3DS. Satoru Iwata this morning at his keynote announced that the two companies will again offer Netflix streaming to the Nintendo 3DS, it’s just 2D Netflix for now – so our April Fools joke still stands.

Netflix isn’t available at all to Australians, which does suck. However, Nintendo will also be teaming with movie studios to provide 3D movie trailers, with The Green Lantern being cited as one of the first trailers we’ll see.

In addition to this Nintendo will also offer a SpotPass powered video service. Think of it as Youtube curated by Nintendo. Nintendo says ’Short video clips, such as comedy shorts or music videos, selected by Nintendo and delivered to Nintendo 3DS users who choose to receive them.’

All of the above features are all coming in May with the huge system update the Nintendo 3DS will receive.

We’ve contacted Nintendo Australia for word about the video services in Australia.
