GameCube Controller support on Switch a surprise to even Nintendo
When Nintendo apparently added GameCube controller support on the sly to the Switch’s firmware in 4.0.0 everyone got a little bit excited. Was Nintendo planning GameCube Virtual Console support, was Smash Bros coming back soon? Turns out, it was just a happy accident.
Speaking to Kotaku, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was asked about the support and what it all meant.
In our latest system software update, it enables third-party peripherals to work on Nintendo Switch. As a result, the peripheral for Wii U that allows it to attach GameCube controllers also works. I think it’s fair to say, Stephen, that that peripheral working was as much a surprise to us as it was to consumers.
Oh well, just means it’s not GameCube Virtual Console support this time… right?
