GameBoy Colour getting some love on the Virtual Console

Thankfully Nintendo have not forgotten completely about the 3DS Virtual Console and this evening announced two games that will be premiering on the Virtual Console soon.

Harvest Moon will be coming to the virtual console in it’s updated coloured version, released all the way back in 1998. There’s not really much to say about Harvest Moon – you plant things on your farm, adopt a pet and care for it, and sell your produce. It’s a fun simulation series and it’s nice to see it getting some recognition on the Virtual Console for a new generation to enjoy. The game was never released outside of North America or Japan, however, so we’re still unsure if our Australian (or even European) readers will be able to enjoy it when it releases later this year.

The second game is Legend of the River King, a cult classic game that is almost like Harvest Moon, except you fish. The player’s sister has fallen ill, and the only thing that can save her is the Guardian Fish which is rumoured to have mystical properties. In order to save your sister, you must travel the world with your rod and tackle box and explore all kinds of fishing spots in your quest for the mystical fish. Fish aren’t the only threat here though – the game also involves fights with wild animals and requires you to look after fish you catch. It’s a cool and simple concept, though like Harvest Moon it’s yet to be seen if it’ll release here when it does hit the Virtual Console, as it also did not release here originally.

How do you feel about these contributions to the Virtual Console? Do you think we will see them in PAL regions?
