Game Freak talk about the pressure of making a console Pokémon RPG

When The Pokémon Company announced they were bringing Pokémon to the Nintendo Switch, that’s pretty much all they said. Now Pokémon series director Junichi Masuda and Pokémon Sun and Moon’s director Shigeru Ohmori have spoken to Gameinformer and said a little more.

In the latest issue of the magazine, Masuda shared his thoughts on just how they’re going to make this game;

“What I’m really curious about, and really excited to see, will be the main way that people play the Switch. Will it be home for the most part? Will it be out and about? I think that is really going to depend on where the person lives, maybe. Depending on the country, maybe the main style of playing will be different. As we’ve been saying a lot, we always focus on, when designing the games, thinking about how the player is going to play the game – how they’re going to enjoy it, and what kind of experiences they are going to have. I’m really just kind of excited to see where the main style of playing is going to land.”

Masuda also has said that it’s going to a very difficult game to make and that he hopes “people don’t get their expectations up too high, We’ll do our best”.

There’s also a video from GameInformer which also covers the above but also some more about the fan reaction to the announcement of the game as well. We’ve embedded it below.
