Nikkei in Japan reports that the console will incorporate a "3D joystick" (though it’s unclear how this will actually operate) as well as rumble feedback to allow players to feel collisions and other in-game mechanics. Word is that Nintendo is also mulling over a built-in accelerometer, which would open up opportunities for tilt gameplay. What’s more, the 3DS will boast great improvements in Wi-Fi speeds and battery life for less interruptive game time, both welcome enhancements.
The newspaper also suggests that the screens on the upcoming device will be smaller than 4 inches diagonally, so they will be closer in size to the DSi’s screens rather than the DSi XL’s. First word on the 3D capability of the screens has also come through from Japan’s Yomiuri newspaper. It claims that the screens will feature Sharp’s parallax barrier LCD technology which, according to them, covers the screens with a special film to produce slight differences in the image for each eye.
Though this is exciting news, it is unknown how either newspaper has obtained the information. Some of it might be speculation, so it’s best that we wait for an official release from Nintendo.
