Nintendo has announced via a Mini Nintendo Direct all the details about the long awaited Flipnote Studio 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. The program will be available from the eShop this coming Winter (Summer in the US and Japan) and the base application is free.
The biggest additions to the classic Flipnote Studio formula is the availability of colour, but also the ability to export to GIF and AVI files. There is a total of 6 colours supported now (along with various shades) so you can make those Flipnotes look even better. Not only that, being that its on the 3DS you can now draw in three layers of 3D.
The internet will also appreciate the ability to export to animated GIF and movie files (AVI).
Also new to this 3DS version of Flipnote is the Friend Flipnote Community service. This allows you to comment and rate other friends’ drawings as well as download a copy for yourself if you really love it.
All of this will be available free, the only paid part is the World Flipnote Community service which allows you to do the same as the Friend community however with everyone else in the world. The fee Nintendo says is to pay for the servers required. However, Nintendo did describe the fee as ‘small’ and there is a 30 day trial. If you’re a good artist though and get your drawings popular enough, the monthly fee may be waived.
Nintendo also took this opportunity to announce that the online services for the DSiWare version of Flipnote are being discontinued on May 31st.
So then who’s excited for some Flipnote in 3D?
