Five more characters confirmed for Super Smash Bros.
Five challengers approached the battlefield this morning, during this morning’s Super Smash Bros. Direct, but some in a way you wouldn’t expect. Zero Suit Samus, Sheik and Charizard are joining the battle, all splitting off from characters from previous games. Zero Suit Samus is now her own character, with Samus no longer losing her suit after performing her final smash. Bringing along new jet boots, Zero Suit Samus is now no longer weaker for balance sake.
Zelda now has a new Phantom Slash move, replacing her Sheik transformation, as the two personalities are also two separate fighters this time around. And lastly, Charizard is now no longer controlled by a trainer, with Ivysaur and Squirtle nowhere to be seen. Charizard also seems to become Mega Charizard X as a form, possibly as a final smash.
And with all the fuss about Yoshi from Yoshi’s New Island, we finally have confirmation that the green dinosaur is back for more. This time, however, he will have a more upright posture, rather than his usual dinosaur predator stance. Sakurai stated his newfound posture will make him much more powerful than before.
And last, but not least, the final character to be announced, Greninja; the only fighter to be announced that’s actually a newcomer! Greninja seems to rely on actual ninja-esque moves, like shuriken and agility based strikes. With this announcement, we now have four Pokémon fighters, a far cry from catching them all!
Sakurai trolled me hard. I was ready to rage when he said there’d be no ZSS!
Hahah, me too!
Whilst I’d still like the option to switch, giving each character a set balance without allowing them to change in mid-match is possibly for the best.
(Although it’s probably more to do with cancelling the loading of another character online.)
