Out of the box the Wii U is missing a lot of it’s great and unique features. Miiverse, the eShop and basically anything to do with online is all waiting for you in a system update. That system update went live for Americans a few hours before the launch of the console there and it’s a big one. While there’s no one has yet figured out just how big the update is exactly, figures anywhere from 1GB to 4GB (and even 5GB) have been bandied about, one thing for sure is that it takes a long time to download.
One live streamer over the weekend had his download going for just over an hour and ten minutes. This was before the system was launched to the general public as well, before the hoard. One thing is for sure, if you bring your Wii U home from a midnight launch you better just play some games or perhaps go to bed and leave it updating. It could take a while.
