The first gameplay footage for the upcoming 3DS rhythm based Final Fantasy spinoff, Theatrhythm, has surfaced as part of the game’s Japanese site launching. Although the trailer only lasts less than a minute, it does demonstrate the musical gameplay far better than the previously released screenshots managed to. The game combines Guitar Hero’s traditional note rivers and the various mechanics of DS cult classic Elite Beat Agents before wrapping the two in a more intricate format.
This chibi rhythm game is currently only in the works for Japan, although Square does have a fair history of releasing the franchise internationally. Look of the game aside, the trailer sure reminds me how much I like the series’ music, so I’m off to go find my copy of XII to listen to the loop demo.
