Both the Nintendo 3DS XL (LL over there) and New Super Mario Bros. 2 were released in Japan last week and the first sales figures are in.

For the first two days on sale 192,000 Nintendo 3DS XL consoles were sold, that doesn’t include the original 3DS model either. New Super Mario Bros. 2 did well too with 431,000 copies selling in the first two days on sale as well.

For comparison New Super Mario Bros on the DS debuted at over 800,000 copies however at that point there were over 8 million DS consoles in the wild in Japan. At the moment there are only 6.5 million 3DS consoles in Japan sold, not including these figures.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 was also available digitally and while its safe to say direct downloads of the game aren’t counted here, but it’s not known if download codes sold in stores are counted for this amount. They were getting pushed very heavily in Japan with walls of stores lined with the cards.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is now just under 20 days from release for the rest of us, not long now.
