First image of Wii U eShop released

If you enjoy seeing pictures of cool Nintendo stuff that isn’t actually out yet, then you’re going to love this. Continuing the recent trend, Nintendo of Japan has released the very first image of the eShop up and running on the Wii U.

The service will function in a similar fashion to the 3DS version, allowing users to download the latest games, demos, view videos and images (in HD), provide ratings and also look at the latest Miiverse comments.

With the assistance of the Wii U Gamepad’s built-in touch screen, eShop navigation should be a breeze. An added bonus is the ability to run the online store while a game is being played – something the 3DS isn’t capable of doing.

So what do you think? Is it looking promising or will Nintendo have to give it a makeover after release like they did with the 3DS eShop layout? Let everyone know in the comments below.

I’ve been writing about video games since 2006 and playing them since I was a kid. I started out with a copy of Mario & Yoshi on the Game Boy and before I knew it was in debt to Tom Nook. These days I spend much of my time trawling the eShop for the latest downloadable hit.

I’m guessing the Mario and Luigi boxes are just examples of how the games are put into groups like on the 3DS e-shop… It could be something else, but I can’t tell.

Other than that, I really like the layout, it’s a massive improvement from the 3DS’s store layout and design in my opinion (Although I have no problems with that version).

I’m still bummed about the fact they’re going to have two separate stores for Wii stuff and Wii U stuff. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
