FIFA 20: Legacy Edition (Switch) Review
FIFA 20 is the third FIFA game to arrive on the Switch since launch, we had a few issues with FIFA 18, but a lot of them were addressed last year FIFA 19 with online friendlies being added among the biggest of the fixes. So this year we were all hoping for a little bit more, sadly it’s not to be.
What we’ve got here is FIFA 20 Legacy Edition, and what they mean to the lay-person is that EA has essentially given up on trying to make the Switch version of FIFA any better. Legacy Edition means that aside from an updated UI, team and player roster the game is essentially as it was last year. We wrote a whole review about that then.
So instead of writing another review, saying all the same stuff again, we’re just going to point you to that one. We were hoping for even some small quality of life updates to the game, but sadly there’s nothing here. EA isn’t being slimy in hiding at least, their official FAQ lists what is and isn’t in the game on their website. The game is also a little bit cheaper than the other versions at least that probably won’t stop a relative spoiling someone’s Christmas.
By virtue of being the most to date with the world, FIFA 20 is the best FIFA game on the Switch, but you probably shouldn’t buy it. FIFA 19 is in the bargain bin, but don’t get us wrong FIFA on Switch is great and a bunch of fun. It’s a great football game, it’s just missing all the new fun new features that the other consoles got, the story mode, and all the gameplay improvements the series has seen.
There’s no reason to buy FIFA 20 on the Switch unless you can find it cheaper than FIFA 19 or you’re a mad football fan in need of the latest rosters.
Rating: 2/5
+ FIFA portable is still fun
+ It runs well and looks the part
- It's the same game as last year
- It's the same game as last year
- It's the same... you get it
We play AFL here.
I bought the last two at launch, including the Champions Edition of 19, which I thought was a sign that EA intended to go all out going forward. How foolish had I been.
I’ll wait for a substantial discount before dipping my toes in this one. It’s disgraceful that this costs about the same as other platforms for almost no new content.
Worse is that 20 has all these extra language packs that would have easily fit on the cartridge.
