EA has announced that Cristiano Ronaldo will be the cover star for the upcoming FIFA 18. It will be released on September 29, 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 systems. That is EA’s ordering and grouping of systems.
We say this because despite being called FIFA 18 it seems the Switch version of the game will be missing at least one mode, and it won’t be running on the Frostbite engine.
At the end of the trailer for the game it has the following “small-text” at the end;
Frostbite game engine technology and the Journey: Hunter Returns mode are available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platform versions only. Not all features available on all platforms.
This at the very least means the Switch version of the game is not only running on the old engine, but it’s missing the story mode. We’re also not sure if the Switch will get the ‘icon’ version of the game or just the regular one.
What else will be missing from the game when it launches on the Switch? FIFA Ultimate Team perhaps? We’ll endeavour to find out but for now, chalk us up as disappointed.
Update: Hidden in the code of the FIFA Ultimate Team page is this reference to the FIFA Companion app.
Sorry, the Nintendo Switch is not supported in the FIFA 18 Companion App. Change to another platform by using the Persona Selector above.

If the Switch isn’t supported in the FIFA 18 Companion App, then it might not have Fifa Ultimate Team either.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, Rune Factory 5, Rune Factory 4 Special, West…
Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Miyamoto and Metal Slug Tactics.
Until you see the price, at least.
Put a pin in it.
