Now there's a name we haven't heard in a long time...
I don’t blame anyone if they don’t remember Fear Effect, but fans of the long forgotten Eidos (now Square Enix) franchise can rejoice as news that a new project is in the works.
Fear Effect: Reinvented is a complete remake of the original game, which hit the PlayStation back in 2000. The series follows mercenary Hana Tsu-Vachel, who teams up with Deke and Glas to search for the missing daughter of a Hong Kong Triad boss.
When it released seventeen years ago, Fear Effect blew people away – taking liberal inspiration from games like Resident Evil but with one key difference: that every background was looping full motion video. The result was something pretty striking for the time but as a result, the game spanned four discs.
A prequel, Fear Effect: Retro Helix, was released shortly thereafter. A sequel, Fear Effect: Inferno, was in production but subsequently canceled before it saw a planned release for PlayStation 2.
Little is known about the remake, except for the fact that it’ll retain the same fixed camera perspective as the original game and improved controls.
The teaser is available below:
Fear Effect Reinvented will hit the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2018.
