Famitsu features a lengthy retrospective/insight into Square Enix this week
Japanese weekly magazine features history and future of the RPG juggernaut
Famitsu has conducted a huge feature this week detailing Kingdom Hearts 3D (Dream Drop Distance), the Kingdom Hearts series, the Dissidia series, and Final Fantasy XI.
Game director Tetsuya Nomura let a few specifics go on KH3D. Most notable among these were the development completion percentage of 40-50%, the inclusion of an enigmatic and puzzling story (which will shed some light on the hidden data in Sora) and the reveal of the rooftop traversal. He also dropped a very vague hint: "XXX and XXX in Traverse Town!" Fill in the blanks, I guess.
In regards to the future of the popular series, Nomura said that KH3D will have some answers. The Xehanort part of the Kingdom Hearts saga will also end with KHIII – however, the series will continue after KHIII, with Sora remaining as the main character. Although Nomura was not specific, he did not rule out the possibility of HD remakes of past titles – whether or not these past titles include Kingdom Hearts remains to be seen.
Another interesting tidbit: back before Dissidia Duodecim was released, Nomura said a sequel would not be a fighting game. Famitsu asked if Theatrhythm was that game; the answer was a solid no. Keep your hopes up for a Dissidia title on 3DS then!
Finally, FFXI producer Hiromichi Tanaka has announced that theyre investigating a straight port of FFXI to Playstation Vita, but there is no solid plan at present. With any luck, these plans might incorporate the 3DS in the long run.
