Miyamoto quite candidly isn't sure what to do with it.
As if the great Miyamoto questioning why we’d want another F-Zero previously wasn’t enough confirmation of the high octane franchise not being revisited in the near future, Miyamoto has discussed the future of the franchise with IGN.
In his discussion with IGN, Miyamoto claims to now understand why people want a new F-Zero game, and confesses he is struggling to find a good idea for bringing something new to the table to make it new again. He also acknowledges the connection people are making between Mario Kart 8’s own anti gravity features and F-Zero.
Miyamoto also expressed disappointment in how tough it is to present certain franchises at exhibitions like E3 but then be bombarded with questions about what wasn’t shown. He also discussed the possibility of getting another company to develop the game externally on behalf of Nintendo similar to what SEGA and Namco did for F-Zero and Starfox previously.
The more we think about it, the more we prefer to be able to create those games internally, on our own. We’ve obviously, as I mentioned, been working on what we can do to increase our internal staff in a way that will allow us to have more projects going at the same time, so we can create new games and work on additional old IP and still maintain the other primary franchises that people want to see.
So, in short, don’t get your hopes up any time soon, F-Zero fans. But don’t expect it to be completely written off – Miyamoto’s acknowledgement of people wanting it here could suggest something might be in the works, just not in the short term.
Are you gunning for a new F-Zero game?
