Miyamoto explains why we haven't seen a F-Zero title for a while.
The F-Zero franchise hasn’t got much love from Nintendo in a while, the last title released in the series was F-Zero: GP Legend on the Game Boy Advance released all the way back in 2004. So why hasn’t there been a new title for a while? In a new interview with Edge, Shigeru Miyamoto has offered an explanation.
“I think at the time it was a really big surprise, a new thing, a product that made sense. I don’t see with current hardware how you could create a similar surprise.” said Miyamoto. His thinking makes sense, the Wii isn’t that much more powerful than the GameCube.
So what about that fancy new Nintendo 3DS that’s out now and the Wii U on the way that offers HD graphics and another entirely new controller? Well Miyamoto is already one step ahead of you. “[But] maybe with future hardware, with Wii U coming up, maybe we could create something that does make sense, either as a smaller game, or a fully fledged title.” he told Edge.
So we all know what the 3DS could do with F-Zero, but what about the Wii U? Whatever the case, something might be brewing at Nintendo and we can’t wait to see it at 60-frames-per-second.
And it looks Grand.
