While the name suggests, OzComicCon is definitely focused on Comics & Anime rather than gaming, however there’s plenty of places to get your fix. Like with most conventions, there’s a plethora of fan art prints to buy, including some very amazing recreations of Pokemon Cards.
This year’s special guests included Charles Martinet, who of course should be known as the voice of Mario (along with like everyone else in the mushroom kingdom). Unfortunately like with any special guest, the lines to see him were incredibly long and pricing was quite high just for a picture, so I didn’t get to meet him, but maybe one day!
Of course the event was filled with various cosplayers (myself included) so I was on the lookout for some Ninendo characters.
This Mario cosplay is absolutely fantastic, and was also at Supanova earlier this year, how he gets around the crows I have no idea, but he even does the warp pipe sound! A+ for dedication.
Pokemon Go has obviously been a massive hit, even enough for a cosplay as Professor Willow.
These kids were absolutely adorable, getting immediately into character after I asked for a photo.
I asked Nintendo on who this character was, and they weren’t quite sure themselves. At least somebody is celebrating Metroid’s 30th.
While I’m sure I missed a tonne of other cosplays in the crowd, these were ones I managed to chase down. Still haven’t seen a Linkle cosplay yet, but I have a feeling one might pop up at EB Expo at the end of the month.
All in all, if you love comics, anime, games and making your wallet cry, OzComicCon has improved 200% since I first went, having a lot more variety and space (although getting to the venue via ferry or shuttle bus is really annoying) than Supanova & Smash, this is easily one of my favorites only second to PAX.
See you at EB Expo!
It's Black, Back Again.
If these aren't the coolest graphics...
Loco Motive, MySims: Cozy Bundle, Stray, Nine Souls, Servonauts.
