European release of Rune Factory 4 cancelled

The latest installment Rune Factory series won’t be making its way over to Europe, and in turn that means no release here in Australia either.

The publishers for the game in Europe have confirmed that the release of Rune Factory 4 has been cancelled. The game was released in Japan all the way back in 2012 and localised and released in America late last year.

Here’s the statement from the publisher via Rice Digital.
“We regret to inform you that the European release of Rune Factory 4 for Nintendo 3DS has been cancelled

While MarvelousAQL has made every effort to secure the title’s release for this territory, it is, unfortunately, not possible to do so at this time.
MAQL and MAQL Europe would like to thank everyone for their support and enthusiasm for their European releases. Please look forward to announcements on new MAQL titles over the coming months.”
Region locking robs us of another game.

That really sucks. Wonder if they will just end up doing a digital only release later down the track.

At least it seems Marvellous AQL are trying to get it over. What is the holdup I wonder? Legal issues? Translation into several languages? Money?

Let’s hope it gets an eventual release, and maybe even hope for region unlocking in the future.
