Would like to and it's happening are two different things.
Elite Beat Agents as it was known here in the west was a surprise Nintendo DS title. Based on the Japanese title Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan the game offered an eclectic rhythms game that destroyed many a DS screen. Aside from another Japanese sequel we never got to see the Agents dance it out again – despite two new systems both with touch screens again.
Series creator Keiichi Yano would like to change that.
In a new interview with Polygon, Yano was asked whether or not he’d like to make another game. This was his response.
I have a great relationship with Nintendo.
There will be a right time, when it feels like it should come back. A lot of times, the platform will dictate those kind of things. I think people have an idea – “if this game was on this platform, it would be perfect and it would be like this” – those are the times when it’s right to have that kind of a comeback.
I’d certainly love to make another version of it and hopefully it’s the next platform.
While we can’t be certain it’s likely ‘next platform’ means the NX, hopefully we can see just how strong his relationship is with Nintendo with a new Ouendan or Elite Beat Agents game in the near future.
